ADAMO

ADAMO is a system for scientific programming in FORTRAN and other languages, based on the Entity- Relationship (ER) model.

FORTRAN is well suited to writing algorithms, but its simple data structures are inadequate to cope with the complexity of large programs for particle physics experiments. Memory managers try to overcome this problem but they are clumsy and dangerous. Other programming languages provide data structures but no operators.

ADAMO addresses these problems by providing a system based on the Entity-Relationship model for defining tabular data structures and for manipulating and validating them from FORTRAN, C, or other languages.

ADAMO is a necessary component of the HERMES Software packages.
