Supernova 2001el in NGC 1448

sn01el_i.jpg Discovered by Birto Monard in South Africa. This one is turning out to be the brightest SN this year. It has now been confirmed to be a type Ia found on the rise in a nearby galaxy. Note that at -44 degrees latitude it is fairly south. We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal. Icon generated from Ted Dobosz's image.
