CVS

CVS helps to parallelize software development and fullfills the need in the UNIX community for a freely available tool to manage software revision and release control in a multi-group environment. This tool also addresses the increasing need for tracking third-party vendor source distributions while trying to maintain local modifications to earlier releases. CVS is a tool freely available with GNU sources for UNIX which hides the full power of RCS (Revision Control System) and uses some modified UNIX tools (i.e diff). These products are available via anonymous ftp from prep.ai.mit.edu. Also a remote-CVS source and documentation is available via anonymous ftp from heplib.slac.standford.edu and may become standard part of CVS in the future.
