SAORD SAO R&D (SAORD) software tree is mainly for astronomical analysis. It contains: SAOtng --- displaying IRAF images and FITS images, multiple frame buffers, region/cursor manipulation, several scale algorithms, many colormaps, and easy communication with external analysis tasks; ASSIST --- a graphical user interface to IRAF and other analysis environments under the X Window System. It is based on the Answer Garden Substrate, a system designed to help groups organize and access databases of frequently asked questions and other information. XPA --- the X Public Access mechanism is a layered interface built on top of the Xt selection interface, which allows an Xt program to define points of public access through which data and commands can be exchanged with external programs.
