AIPS++

AIPS++ (Astronomical Information Processing System) is

  • C++ software to process (primarily radio) astronomical data;
  • developed at an international consortium of observatories;
AIPS++ is under beta release now, and is scheduled to be released generally in mid-1997. In addition, a few separate components are now available:
  • The Glish system --- Glish is both a programming language and an environment for data acquisition and analysis. It contains many of the mathematical features of other languages such as Fortran and C, and it is particularly strong on array arithmetic. To the user, glish becomes AIPS++ or a telescope control system with the addition of functions and "clients" for those applications. In fact, both applications may be run from the same invocation of glish, if so desired.
  • The FITS classes --- C++ classes deal with all the usual FITS types (Primary Array, Image Extension, Binary Tables, ASCII tables, and Random Groups.)
  • The cxx2html program for generating HTML pages from C++ header files --- it is written in Perl 5.0 and it is currently used to create the library reference manual for the AIPS++ project .
